About Khayelitsha Community Trust (KCT)

Empowering the Khayelitsha community through strategic social, residential, and commercial development.

Our History

City Founding & Land Agreements

The Khayelitsha Community Trust (“KCT”) was established by the City of Cape Town in 2003 with the strategic mandate of facilitating commercial, residential, and community-based developments within Khayelitsha. Founded on a vision to stimulate sustainable economic activity, the Trust plays a pivotal role in unlocking investment potential and advancing inclusive growth.

Formerly operating as a municipal entity, the Trust has since successfully transitioned into a registered non-profit organisation with Public Benefit Organisation (“PBO”) tax status. Under a Land Availability Agreement (LAA) entered into between the City of Cape Town and the Khayelitsha Business District (KBD), KCT supports and holds equity in major precinct developments, strategically reinvesting the returns into future projects and community advancement initiatives to ensure long-term socio-economic impact.
